The new 2013-spec Toyota TS030 hybrid race car will make its debut at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps event next weekend. The car is thoroughly upgraded with better aerodynamic and more power, but don’t be surprised if it didn’t really shine at Spa. Toyota has set its sight on Le Mans 24 Hours and tuned the TS030 for that.

The updated model now features a revised monocoque, improving performance while mitigating the impact of new 2013 regulations that increased the minimum weight of LMP1 cars by 15 kg. It also has revised aerodynamics and the Toyota Hybrid System is tweaked as well.

The system uses a unique super capacitor which automatically delivers 300hp of boost, on top of the 530hp generated by the 3.4-litre normally aspirated V8 petrol engine. The engineers at Toyota’s Motor Sport Division in Higashafuji, Japan have spend countless hours fine-tuning this powerplant for more power, better efficiency, and more importantly, reliability. That is in spite of the fact that they are going to introduce an all-new unit for the 2014 season based on the new rules.

The 2013 Toyota TS030 will be sporting No.7 at Spa, and will be driven by Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima. Joining them is a 2012-spec car with number 8, driven by Anthony Davidson, Stéphane Sarrazin and Sébastien Biemi. These guys scored a podium finish at the season-opener race in Silverstone.
