Yesterday the first sketches of Volkswagen’s new concept car for the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show hit the web, and today we have the first official pictures of this good-looking crossover. These pictures make it clear that despite the name, CrossBlue Coupe, the car is actually a four-door.
So Volkswagen is preparing a rival for the Mercedes GLA and other new entries in this crowded segment, and it is looking pretty much production ready. Sure, there are a few fancy details, especially inside the cabin, for the sake of the show. But apart from those, the CrossBlue Coupe is ready to roll.
One particular feature of the concept car that we like to see in the production model, but probably won’t, is the hybrid powertrain. It consists of a turbocharged V6 petrol and two electric motors, resulting in a total output of 450 horsepower, a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds, and average fuel consumption of 3L/100 km. The main reason the production car cannot have this, at least for now, is the cost.
