You’ve seen the pictures, now let’s dive right in and see what new technologies the 2014 Mercedes S-Class is blessed with. The tech in this car is what your average family saloon will have in 10 years. The S-Class, as you know, has always been the birthplace of new technologies. It was the first with ABS, airbag, cruise control, etc,.

The new S-Class continues with the design theme of its predecessors. There is no drastic change here, only some new panels, new head and taillights to give it the current Mercedes corporate look, and a new front grille that many people are saying is too big. That is probably they had to fit lots of stuff behind it, like the radars for the active cruise control system that can basically drive the car itself.

Mercedes has paid a lot of attention to lighting in this car. Aside from featuring Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus, as well as stereo camera and multistage radar sensors, the S-Class has 360-degree all-round vision. The car also boasts a great number of LEDs; there are 56 in each of the headlamps, 35 in each tail lamp, and nearly 300 inside the cabin!

The suspension in this car has so many sensors and control systems that Mercedes jokes it has eyes. It consists of ROAD SURFACE SCAN that works via the stereo camera, and in accordance with the MAGIC BODY CONTROL. Standard equipment for the new S-Class includes the continuously operating Adaptive Damping System ADS PLUS and an enhanced version of the full air suspension system AIRMATIC.

The interior of the new Mercedes S-Class is one of its biggest strength points. It has a classic design with circular vents and a retro steering wheel, but the choice of materials and the technology is ultra-modern. You get two TFT screens in 8:3 and 12:3 formats as the instrument panel and the infotainment system, a touch-sensitive telephone keypadm and enhanced voice control system, in addition to all the usual luxury amenities you’d expect from a car of this class.

Another highlight of the cabin is the advanced climate control system, featuring AIRBALANCE package that comprises perfume atomisation, ionisation and even more efficient filtration compared with the standard model. The automatic climate control in the rear has two additional zones to improve thermal comfort. Electric heating of the armrests is a completely new feature.

Then there’s the safety features, headlined by the PRE-SAFE Plus which prevent collisions with pedestrians and vehicles in front in city traffic, defuse dangerous situations caused by traffic behind and enhance the protection offered by the seat belts. The S-Class is also the first car in the world to offer the inflatable seat-belt strap or Beltbags.
