An undisguised example of BMW’s upcoming M235i Coupe has been scooped, revealing the design of the new 2 Series. And thank goodness it is nothing like the godawful 1 Series F20. This car looks more like a shrunk 3 Series, only it’s better because it doesn’t have that car’s unibrow. It’s a great-looking car.
The 2 Series is a new category for BMW that covers sporty versions of the 1 Series, just as the new 4 Series is used for the coupe and convertible versions of the 3 Series. So the M235i is basically the new 1 Series Coupe. And the 235i code means it is the hot version, powered by the same engine as the current M135i hatchback with 320 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Forget the new M3/M4, this car will be the true successor to the legendary E30.
The M235i will not be the hottest member of the 2 Series family though. Hopefully BMW will also make a 2 Series M Coupe, or 2M Coupe, a year or so after this car is launched.
