Mercedes Benz UK officially announced the pricing for the New S-Class as the car goes on sale in the old country. The car is available in an entry-level 350 model, plus three long wheelbase L models with 350, 400, and 500 engines.

Prices start from £62,650 for the base S350 BlueTEC model. The engine in this car and its long L version (which costs £65,650) produces 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque. The diesel S-Class goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, and returns a very respectable 51 mpg.

Then we have the S 400 Hybrid L powered by a 306 horsepower petrol V6 and a 27 hp electric motor. This model costs £69,650, but performance-wise, it is exactly the same as the 350 BlueTEC. It is less economical though, weirdly, managing only 44.8 mpg. That begs the question why would you spend more to get less?

The only proper engine offered for the new S-Class for now, until the AMG versions arrive, is the 500 V8. At £88,130, the S500 is quite pricey, but then it does take you form 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. And as for the fuel economy, with a rating of 31.7 mpg it is not that bad.

Top speed of all models is limited to 155 mph. Notable options include 1,540 watt Burmester 3D surround sound system with 24 specially designed speakers, 24 amplifier channels and three speakers integrated into the headlining (£6,430); Air-Balance Package (£360); and Magic Body Control suspension for S 500 (£4,340).
