SRT decided to put its huge wealth of motorsport experience to good use, this time to make some money, and launched the new Viper GT3-R. It is a track car that customers can buy and enter various GT and endurance series. This car replaces the old Viper GTS-R.
The GT3-R is developed in collaboration with Riley Technologies, an expert in making racing-winning cars from Daytona prototype endurance cars to GT competition cars. The car shares a lot with its GTS-R predecessor in engine, chassis, suspension, electronics and aerodynamics. It is one of the few V10-powered race cars still in existence.
Compared to the road-going SRT Viper, the GT3-R is of course lighter and more agile. It features a highly-efficient aerodynamic package to optimize handling, a much more powerful braking system with six-piston front brake calipers with four-piston rears, lightweight wheels and a multi-disc race clutch working in tandem with an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters. Due to the regulations of GT racing though, the output of the V10 engine in this Viper will probably be limited using restrictors.
You can now order a SRT Viper GT3-R for $459,000 USD.
