As the new generation S-Class goes on sale in Europe, Mercedes-Benz announces the pricing details for what they call the best car in the world, ever. That is a big claim, but those who have driven the new S-Class say it is more relaxing than a Rolls-Royce Phantom, and better-equipped than an A380 business class cabin.

Even before the market launch, Mercedes has received over 20,000 orders for the S-Class, which is quite something, considering the fact that it starts from 79,789 Euros and goes up to 107,635 Euros. And these are not even the AMG versions.

The 2014 Mercedes S-Class come sin two hybrid versions, one petrol model and a diesel variant: S 400 HYBRID, S 500, S 350 BlueTEC and S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID. The fuel efficiency is frankly astonishing, considering the weight and the size of the car. The S500 long wheelbase, the least eco-minded of all, averages 8.6 liters/100km, the S400 Hybrid manages 6.3 liters/100km, the S350 BlueTEC 5.5 liters, and the S350 Hybrid an amazing 4.4 liters.

On the other end of things, the performance has not suffered. The S350 Hybrid, the most eco-minded model, still manages to hit 100 km/h from 0 in 7.6 seconds, the BlueTEC and the s400 Hybrid in 6.8 seconds, the S500 in a sports car-busting 4.8. The top speed in all models is limited to 250 km/h.
