As usual, the first pictures of a new model – in this case the Mercedes-Benz GLA Class – leaks onto the web ahead of its official debut – in this case Frankfurt Motor Show. The new compact crossover by Mercedes looks well-prepared for the challenge that is ahead of it conquering one of the busiest segments of the market.
The GLA is based on the same platform as the A-Class, but even if you didn’t know that, a brief look at the car reveals its roots. Some may find that a bit disappointing, arguing that the GLA looks like a jacked up A-Class on some large wheels. But there are subtle differences between the design of this car and the little A. And it’s not like the A-Class is a bad looking car.
The GLA is about 4.4 meters long and has a 421 liters of luggage space (836 liters with the rear seats folded). The engine lineup at launch will include a 156 PS 1.6 liter petrol in the GLA200, a 210 PS 2.0 liter in the GLA250, a 136 PS 2.2 liter diesel in the GL220 CDi, and a 170 PS version of the same engine. You can have the car with two- or four-wheel-drive.
Later on, there will be a GLA45 AMG model powered by the same 360 PS 2.0 liter turbo engine you find in the A45 AMG.
