Not that it really needs it, but Land Rover is updating the 2014 Range Rover Evoque with a host of new technology features designed to make the car more efficient and more fun to live with. The highlight of the new features is a new 9-speed automatic transmission.

The new transmission is a 9-speed version of ZF’s highly acclaimed 8-speeder currently used in a wide range of JLR cars. With a wide spread of ratios, response time below the threshold of perception, and selectable driving modes, the new unit promises improved economy, reduced emissions, enhanced performance and greater comfort. Land Rover reckons that in the Evoque it’ll lower fuel consumption by up to 11.4 percent and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 9.5 percent.

2014 Range Rover Evoque also comes with seven new driver assistance features, including: Park Exit (to automatically exit parallel parking bays), Perpendicular Park (to position the car centrally in parking bays), Closing Vehicle Sensing and Reverse Traffic Detection (to warn drivers of oncoming traffic), Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and Wade Sensing.

Then we have the connectivity features: InControl Remote and InControl Secure. AS the names suggest, the Remote service has the ability to call up emergency services and give the location of the car in case of an accident, and the Secure can track the car down if it’s stolen.

Even the drivetrain is updated, with the new Active Driveline ‘on demand’ four-wheel drive system. It works with the electronic differential to make sure AWD is only engaged when it’s needed. This way it saves fuel by operating in FWD mode most of the time.

Way down the list you find the cosmetic changes, which include new colour options for the interior, four new alloy wheel styles and a new style of Land Rover badge on the grille, wheel centres and tailgate. The engine lineup for 2014 Range Rover Evoque is the same as before.
