Mercedes Benz joins the exclusive club of family sedans that offer 40+ MPG fuel economy in the American market, as their 2014 E250 BlueTEC receives an official EPA rating of 45 MPG highway. The diesel-powered luxury sedan also does 28 mpg around town.
The 2014 Mercedes E250 BlueTEC is actually the first diesel E-Class to be available with 4MATIC, with which the ratings fall to 42 mpg highway and 27 in the city. That’s still very good, and you get the sure-footed performance of the all-whee-drive system.
As for the power, you get 195 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, which again, is not brilliant, but then this car is not a performance model. Mercedes has engineered this car for no turbo lag, fast throttle response, a broad torque curve across the entire engine speed range and noticeably improved performance.
The rest of the 2014 Mercedes E250 BlueTEC apart form the engine is standard Mercedes, which means you get tons of convenience features, and more than 30 standard and optional active and passive safety systems under the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive comfort and safety portfolio. DISTRONIC PLUS, PRE-SAFE, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Protection are just some of the high-end features than can be speicfied for the E250.
