The first pictures of a new Caterham concept car have leaked onto the web, showing a new type of Caterham sports cars totally different than the ancient Seven. Called the AeroSeven, it is the car the silhouette of which was recently teased on Caterham F1 cars.

Details are scarce at the moment, but based on what we’re seeing here, the Caterham AeroSeven appears to be a more serious take on a sports car than the normal Seven models. It still features an open cockpit, but at least the bottom half of the car offers some protection to the elements. It has the characteristics of a classic Le Mans race car.

Caterham AeroSeven was conceived after the alliance between the British firm and Renault-Alpine. So chances are it’ll drop the usual Ford engines that Caterham loves so much in favour of a peppy Renault motor.

The AeroSeven will probably be unveiled during the SingTel Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, but a production version could be as far away as 2016.
