The curtain finally drops on the Mercedes S-Class Coupe, which turned up at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a mere design study. This car, or rather its production version, will be the replacement for the CL-Class, offering a more individualistic approach to luxury motoring for those who don’t need four doors.

The Mercedes S-Class Coupe is a car of impressive proportions. With a wheelbase of 2945 mm, it measures 5050 mm in length, 1958 mm in width and 1409 mm in height. Then we have the 21-inch wheels, wrapped with 265/35 R 21 tires up front, and 295/35 R 21 out back.

And the whole thing has the majesty of an artistic sculpture about it. To be honest we are glad that the Coupe doesn’t look much like the four-door S-Class. It looks fine, but that’s the nicest thing we can say about it. The sedan is soulless. The Coupe isn’t.

Mercedes S-Class Coupe Concept show car also has an engine – a 455 hp 4.6 liter biturbo V8 with 700 Nm of torque. The car is also a showcase of the latest technology features Mercedes Benz has to offer, including a camera system can get a three-dimensional view of the area up to about 50 metres in front of the vehicle, and as “6DVision” can detect the position and movement of objects. it has the latest application of road scanners, Magic Body Control suspension system, and the latest infotainment system with mind-boggling capabilities.

A production version of the Mercedes S-Class Coupe will emerge early next year.
