Following a couple of leaked design sketches, Mercedes has now confirmed the official debut of the S-Class Coupe Concept at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The replacement for the CL-Class is based on the W222 S-Class, but it doesn’t appear to share its design with the sedan four-door version.
The Mercedes S-Class Coupe is one of many different variants of the new S-Class planned for launch over the next few years. Designed to be a proper Grand Tourer like its predecessor, the CL, the car is big and imposing in size, but fairly light and agile on its feet. Starting with the new generation SL, Mercedes is now utilizing aluminum in the making of its luxury models, so despite the sheer size they are not like barges to drive anymore.

The S-Class Coupe will also be getting a range of refined new engines. There will be no four-bangers and V6s offered for this model, but it could get the new S500 Hybrid’s amazing powertrain. It will certainly get the 63 AMG variant with the 5.5 liter bi turbo V8, but we have to wait a bit longer to be sure about the 65 version. It is confirmed that the S-Class sedan is getting the V12 engine, but seeing as the Mercedes S-Class Coupe is a couple of years away from the showrooms, we best not predict anything.
