Even though a pure sports car like the Mazda MX-5 is not about outright performance and speed, it is always nice to mix amazing handling with more power. More power equals more fun. That is exactly what British tuner BBR has done to the little Japanese roadster, giving it 270 horsepower.

Based on the 2.0-litre Sport Tech Roadster Coupe, the BBR Mazda MX-5 GT270 gets advanced electronic upgrades including a launch control function, enhanced throttle response, and auto blip on downshifts, as well as BBR turbocharger, exhaust manifold and intercooler. It also benefits from optional chassis enhancements to cope with the extra oomph.

That oomph has a profound effect on the way the MX-5 gets down the road. The 0 to 60 time is now 4.9 seconds, mainly thanks to the 227lbft of torque, and the top speed is 150 mph.

BBR Mazda MX-5 GT270 costs £29,995 on the road. If you are willing to spend more though, the tuner offers Koni adjustable dampers, high performance brakes with EBC ‘Yellow Stuff’ pads, stainless steel brake lines and Castrol SRF brake fluid, and a special stainless steel sport exhaust system that boosts the power to 302bhp and 254lb.ft of torque.

The car has a strictly limited production run of 100 numbered cars.
