Bentley will soon celebrate its return to competitive motorsport at the Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi with the new Continental GT3. In preparation for the big comeback, the British team has now confirmed the driver lineup for the Gulf Race.
The new Bentley boys in charge of piloting the Continental GT3 to victory, or a decent place at least, are Guy Smith, Steven Kane and Andy Meyrick. They are currently getting more and more acclimated with the Bentley Continental GT3 with various endurance tests.
As for their accomplishments, Guy Smith is one of the guys who took the chequered flag at the 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Bentley Speed 8. He has also won a 2nd place at 2004 Le Mans for Audi, a 3rd at the Sebring 12 Hours, as well as ALMS titles in 2011, followed by finishing a very close second in the championship in 2012 with Dyson Racing.
The Irish man Steven Kane is a former Porsche Carrera Cup, British Touring Car, ALMS and GRAND-AM driver. He has also enjoyed a successful season this year in the Blancpain Endurance Series. The third driver Andy Meyrick has a rich career including seasons in Le Mans Prototype (LMP) competition, in both LMP1 and LMP2, including racing at the Le Mans 24 Hours. More recently he’s been doing wheel work in Porsche Carrera Cup and has a stint with Deltawing race car in ALMS.
Bentley’s Director of Motorsport Brian Gush: “After completing development and endurance testing on a variety of race tracks around Europe since we unveiled the car at Goodwood in July, we’re confident that the Continental GT3 is prepared for its first test race. While the development work never stops, we feel ready to take on the competition for the first time in Abu Dhabi. I’m delighted with our driver selection, and in Guy, Steven and Andy we have world-class talent. All at Team M-Sport Bentley are thrilled to be racing next month.”
