The Gran Coupe formula proved successful enough with the 6 Series for BMW to make a four-door version of the 4 Series as well. This has been confirmed via these leaked patent images, showing a sleek, four-door version of the new 4 Series. Although at first glance you’d think this is a 3 Series sedan.

There are subtle differences between the proposed BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the F30 3er. In fact the new model looks more like a de-uglified 3 Series GT. They share the same sort of curvy roof, but the 4GC has a normal boot. It also has a wider stance than the 3er, more pronounced arches, and it features the 4 Series’ design cues such as the muscular hood and the side vents.

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is expected to be revealed at the next Geneva Motor Show, or, seeing as these patents have emerged from China, the next Beijing Auto Show. The car is going to rival the Mercedes CLA, which has been hugely successful so far, and Audi A3 Sedan.
