2014 Subaru WRX STI Race Car Unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon

While the world is waiting to see the 2015 Subaru WRX STI road car at the Detroit Motor Show next week, the Japanese have already got their first taste of the car in form of the WRX STI Race Car, unveiled at the Tokyo auto Salon.

The new Subaru WRX STI race car is designed and developed to represent the car maker at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race in June. Subaru is apparently finding track racing a lot more fun that rallying, having entered the German race steadily for the past seven years and campaigning the BRZ GT300 in the Japanese super GT series.

Based on the road-going WRX STI, the racing car will compete in the in the SP3T class, boasting a tweaked version of the production engine which is expected to be good for at least 300 horsepower. It also features a proper racing aero kit with large spoilers, splitter and fenders, as well as racing suspension, wheel, tires, and interior.

Subaru’s Nurburgring campaign will be led by Hideharu Tatsumi as team manager, and Toshihiro Yoshida and Kouta Sasaki, plus two European to be announced later, as drivers.
