This year at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show Mercedes-Benz has a couple interesting new cars they’d like to present. One is a hot new crossover, the GLA45 AMG, which we looked at earlier. And the other is this, the new Mercedes S600, revealed partially here in these leaked photos.
To be honest, there isn’t much to see about the 2015 Mercedes S600 styling-wise, as it looks very similar to the rest of the new S-Class W222 lineup. The front and rear fascia are a bit different, and there appears to be more shiny chrome work adorning the S600’s exterior. But on the whole, it is not an unfamiliar sight.
The more interesting bits about S600 are the engines and the super deluxe interior. Amazingly, in this day and age of downsizing and hybrid engines, Mercedes is still managing to keep their V12s around. A 6.0 liter bi-turbo V12 is the unit powering the new S600, developing – according to the leaked specs sheet – 530 horsepower and a colossal 830 Nm of torque, available from 1,900 rpm. The funny thing is that the S600 is not the most powerful S-Class you can buy. There is the S63 AMG (585 hp, 900 Nm), and the S65 AMG (630 hp, 1,000 Nm).
2015 Mercedes S600 comes with a 7G Tronic Plus transmission and rear-wheel-drive, and it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is, as usual, limited to 250 km/h. The big Merc apparently averages 11.3 liters per 100 km, which is pretty decent for a heavy old beast like this.
Stay tuned for the official details and pictures of the 2015 Mercedes S600.
