BMW i8 Prototype Wrecked in Autobahn Crash

One of the best features of the new BMW i8 is its weird and futuristic looks. For some strange reason we always wondered what would a car like this look like in a crash. And today we finally got an answer thanks to a BMW test driver who wrecked an expensive prototype on a German autobahn. It looks sad!

Granted, the only picture available from the crash is not very revealing, but you can clearly see the right side of the car is pretty much destroyed. According to the reports from the scene of the accident, the 30-year-old test driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the barriers. The Police Chief mentioned excessive speed and slippery roads as the main causes of the accident.

This prototype i8 was apparently packed with testing gear worth nearly 200,000 Euros. But even if it wasn’t we reckon it’d still be an expensive misfortune, seeing as the i8 is stuffed with high-tech gear underneath that glorious body. It’s got electric motors and trick suspension and fancy computers all over it. And that is a problem with these modern hybrid cars. Even a minor fender bender can end up damaging something important and producing a massive repair bill.

Fortunately, no one was harmed in this first-ever BMW i8 crash.
