Cadillac ATS-V: First Details Revealed

Cadillac ATS 600x396 at Cadillac ATS V: First Details Revealed

Now that the ATS Coupe has been unveiled and received a warm welcome at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, the next order of business for Cadillac engineers it to come up with a V version of the sports sedan. The upcoming Cadillac ATS-V will go must be able to take on the mighty new BMW M3.

According to the most recent reports, the Cadillac ATS-V will feature a twin-turbo 3.6 liter V6 engine which matches the power output and fuel efficiency of the M3’s straight-six unit with 425 horsepower. The same engine in the ATS Coupe would make a formidable rival for the BMW M4 Coupe.

The engine is good, but Cadillac should also do something about their transmissions. Nothing currently in their armory, either manual or automatic, can match the manual six-speeder or the 7-speed DCT that BMW offers for the M3.

Motor Trend also suggests that Cadillac will offer an ATS-V+ version of the car, powered by a V8 engine which it will share with the next CTS-V. It won’t be the new LT4 supercharged V8 belonging to the new Corvette Z06, but rather a turbocharged version of the LT1 V8 found in the standard Stingray.
