Along with the new 2015 Corvette Z06, the Stingray family will celebrate the launch of the new C7R racing car at this year’s Detroit Motor Show. Details are pretty scarce on this one, and will probably remain that way until the start of the new ALMS season. But we know that underneath, the C7R is very similar to the outgoing C6R.

That means it gets the old 5.5 liter V8 unit instead of the new LT4 in the Z06 Stingray. It would have been pointless to use the new engine, as the rules and regulations of endurance racing limit the output anyway.

The Corvette C7R also sports a full racing kit including an absolutely massive front splitter, side diffuser winglets, extended wheel arches to accommodate ultra-wide new wheels and tires, racing diffuser at the back, and a giant rear wing. The racing components, along with the body in fact, are made from carbon fiber.

We will be seeing and hearing more about the Corvette C7R at NAIAS. Stay tuned.
