Gran Turismo started out as a poky Playstation game and quickly turned into such a global sensation that car makers are begging these days to have a piece of the action. So more and more famous brands are joining the “Vision” program, which is part of the Gran Turismo 6 dedicated to bespoke concept cars designed exclusively for the video game.

Of course, these cars are more than just wild flights of fancy. Car makers who took part – which is pretty much all of them – used this opportunity to give us a sneak peek into their future design direction. It is not near future, mind you. We’re talking about the next 10 or 20 years.

The picture you see above is what Volkswagen has come up with. The teaser sketch they’ve released is revealing enough for us to realize it is a super wild version of the Scirocco featuring a low roof, massively flared arches, short overhangs, and oversized wheels. If there was no rule in the world, this is the Scirocco you’d be able to buy.

Gran Turismo 6 Vision program allows car designers to blow off some steam by letting their imagination roam free outside the boundaries of normal car design before they go back to the drawing board and pen the next boring family saloon or hatchback.
