BMW introduced the new 4-Series to make it easier to tell their different models apart. The idea is that the sporty coupe and convertible versions of the 3-Series are now called 4. Then they went ahead and made things a lot more confusing than before by launching the 4-Series Gran Coupe, which is very similar to the 3-Series sedan, but is a coupe, except it has four doors.
At any rate, the new 4-Series Gran Coupe is a pretty awesome proposition, seeing as it offers all the good stuff the 3-Series sedan offers – except maybe for the rear headroom which is comprised by the sloping roofline, but it makes up for it with a big rear hatch that makes it easier to load stuff in the boot – with fancier styling. Four-door coupes are the hottest trend in the auto world right now, so the Gran Coupe is a lot cooler than the ordinary 3er sedan.
Just about the only way BMW can make this car better is to make an M version of it. Here’s a rendering of what this BMW M4 Gran Coupe may look like, if they ever make one, which is not likely, because it would definitely upset the market of the M3 sedan. That said, the M6 Gran Coupe did the same to the M5, but that didn’t stop BMW from making it anyway. So there is a fair chance we see something quite similar to this car in the very near future.
Just like the new M3 and M4, the BMW M4 Gran Coupe would be powered by a turbocharged I6 engine developing 430 horsepower, and come with either a manual or a dual-clutch DCT transmission, plus all the usual M bits and bobs like the fancy differential, suspension, wheels and brakes.
