BMW is coming to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with an absolutely marvelous lineup that is going to thrill every petrolhead in the land. It includes the i8 hybrid sports car, the M3 Saloon and the M4 Coupe, and all of them will be driven, hard, up the Goodwood hill.
The Festival of Speed will provide a rare chance to see the BMW i8 up close and witness its performance. We will get to hear the noise it makes, which should be interesting, since the petrol engine it features is only a three-cylinder. It will be fast though, as the electric motors will complement the output of the petrol unit to take the car from 0 to 60 mph in around 4 seconds. The i8 should be able to complete the 1.16 mile hill climb course in the same sort of time as a Porsche 911.
Other attractions of BMW’s pavilion will be the new M saloon cars. The new BMW M3 and M4, and other new M models, including a special anniversary edition, will provide good static display, while examples of the M3 and the M4 will be driven by selected customers and media members up the hill.
With a display like this the rest of BMW’s lineup, including the all new MINI Hatch and its John Cooper Works Concept version, is not going to attract much attention.
