Ford EcoBoost family accomplishes another feat, and this time quite a remarkable one. A Ford EcoBoost-powered Chip Ganassi Racing prototype sports car won the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway yesterday, adding yet another feather to EcoBoost’s cap. It’s starting to look like a major plumage!

Since its introduction, the Ford EcoBoost family, in various sizes and forms, has won many different accolades for efficiency and refinement. The Sebring 12 Hours win is the first major motorsport victory for the nameplate, and proves that EcoBoost does not sacrifice performance for the sake of economy. What it does is offer the best compromise between the two.

The race-winning Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Riley prototype is powered by a 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 Ford EcoBoost engine, prepared by Roush Yates. Along with Ganassi, Michael Shank Racing also runs the same engine for their car. They will be competing in the full TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule in 2014.

“You read about stuff like this,” said Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing. “The last time Ford won overall was in 1969, and what really makes it so sweet is that this is a win made possible by a production-based Ford EcoBoost engine. It literally comes out of our production vehicle. It just makes it so, so sweet because it validates what we do at Ford, that the technology we have in our cars is good enough to power an all-out win here at the Sebring 12 Hour.”
