This year, as you may know, an automotive icon celebrates its 25th anniversary. It is the Mazda MX-5 Miata two-seater sports car roadster, and the Japanese company has put together one helluva birthday party for it, which includes the biggest display of MX-5 cars in America at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

At the NYAS Mazda will have two display booths, located on level one (full-line display) and level three (MX-5 display). The Latter will showcase 15 MX-5 vehicles, from auto show concepts to race cars to production models. Later in the year an all-new Mazda MX-5 will be revealed, so we can expect some sort of teaser or preview for that car as well.

As for the reason why Mazda MX-5 is such an icon, well, it’s quite simple. No other car offers what the Miata offers Here’s an affordable two-seater roadster, inspired by the classic British sports car, which is not only great fun to drive, it is fairly practical, very economical, and extremely reliable. It is an enthusiast car build with a lot of common sense.

“MX-5 Miata is the quintessential Mazda,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO.  “And after 25 years, every vehicle in the lineup continues to feature some characteristic of MX-5:  a fluid shifter, lightness on its feet, quickness around a corner, a fun-to-drive DNA.  With all the whiz-bang technology and comfort amenities increasingly added to modern vehicles, MX-5’s direct connection between car and driver still remains the standard feature that puts smiles on drivers’ faces.”
