This year at the New York Auto Show Mazda is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata sports car with a large display of old and new models. The highlights of the ceremony are the debut of a new 25th anniversary special edition of the car, and the unveiling of the next generation all-new Mazda MX-5’s SKYACTIV chassis.
So contrary to the earlier reports, the 2015 MX-5 is not going to be revealed in full at NYIAS. We will only get a glimpse of its chassis, which features a front-midship-engine layout and rear-wheel-drive configuration. The engine is moved further towards the center of the car, and the whole thing weighs 100 kg less than the current model.
As for the Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition, it comes only in Soul Red Metallic and is based on the 2.0-litre 160ps Roadster Coupe model with power retractable hard top and either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
What sets the special edition model apart includes Brilliant Black-painted roof, A-pillars, and door mirror housings; the off-white leather seat upholstery and door trim, hand-finished dashboard decorative panel in Piano Black and the fitting of Bilstein dampers plus 17-inch Dark Gunmetal alloy wheels.
Pricing and availability of the Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition are yet to be announced.
