Looks like Mercedes-Benz is finally ready to unleash a BMW X6 fighter in form of the Concept Coupe SUV. This concept, set for debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show later this month, previews a production model that will be badged MLC. Mercedes might be a bit late to this game, but their player is looking good.

As you’d expect from an X6 rival, Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV features a four-door coupe body with a sloping roof line and small windows, jacked-up ride height, chunky side sills, and massively flared wheel arches that accommodate large wheels.

The rest of the car ah the standard Mercedes look, with large LED-infused headlights, a prominent grille, and an aggressive front fascia. Mercedes has not released a picture of the rear or the interior yet, but chances are they will have a familiar design as well.

As for the technicalities, all Mercedes is promising for now is a sporty and dynamic handling, which means the car will have limited off-road capabilities. That kind of spoils the point of the massive size, huge wheels, and high ground clearance, but as we know from the success of the BMW X6, people only want the powerful look. They don’t care that much about substance.

The production version of Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV, the MLC, will be powered by a range of six and eight-cylinder engines. It will be getting an AMG version as well – at least for as long as BMW makes an X6M.
