A few days ago Volkswagen released a couple of very intriguing teasers announcing the launch of a new four-door coupe model at the Beijing Auto Show. Well, here it is, the Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe (NMC), featuring a sort of design which VW says bridges the gap between saloons and sports cars.
Volkswagen Midsize Coupe is wider than a Passat and shorter than a Jetta. That gives the car unique proportions and fairly good practicality. You get compact size but great luggage capacity (500 liters) and a spacious interior that can accommodate five adults.
The wide track of the Midsize Coupe combined with its 20-inch wheels and the sloping roof, which is a natural part of all four-door coupes, create a nice looking vehicle that brings some excitement to the otherwise dull family saloon segment. Based on the specs VW has released for this car, a production version of it should be quite affordable as well.
Volkswagen Midsize Coupe is powered by a 162 kW / 220 PS direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. It propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 244 km/h. the average fuel consumption meanwhile is only 6.4 liters per 100 km.
