Volkswagen announced the debut of a new four-door coupe concept, called simply the Midsize Coupe, at the Beijing Auto Show. They call it a coupe “the like of which has never been seen before,” which is a bit of a giant leap, as it appears to be a four-door coupe version of the Jetta.
Notwithstanding Volkswagen’s delusions of grandeur, the Midsize Coupe is a fine looking car that ticks all the right boxes for stylish CLA rival. It is low and wide – 1.4 meters tall and 1.8 meters wide – and features short overhangs, muscular shoulders and side sections, a dynamic roof line, long bonnet and short boot.
Volkswagen Midsize Coupe is shorter in length than both the Passat and Jetta, which means if they decided to make it, which they probably will, it could very well get a Golf CC badge. The concept rides on 20-inch wheels, and is powered by a 220 hp four-cylinder TSI engine. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 250 km/h.
Right now there are no plans to make a production version of Volkswagen Midsize Coupe. But watch this space if you like the car. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.
