Volkswagen finally revealed something about their 2014 Worthersee project, and boy was it worth the wait. What they have come up with is called Volkswagen GTI Roadster, and it’s an attempt at turning a Gran Turimo video game car into a real-life machine.

As the name suggest, this car is a Roadster version of the latest Golf GTI based on a digital concept designed jointly by VW and Sony for GT6 game. It shares only a handful of cues with the standard Golf, but those are enough to make it recognizable as a Golf.

Volkswagen GTI Roadster will never be produced in this shape and form, but its design may inspire a future production model, namely a track-focused version of Golf VII. The concept features large air intakes at the front, a massive splitter, vented hood, buffed up fenders and a big rear wing. These are features that are most at home on a track car.

Volkswagen GTI Roadster is also hugely powerful, packing 500 horsepower from a modified VR6 engine, matted to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and all-wheel-drive. It is also fitted with large carbon ceramic brakes and 20-inch wheels with high-performance tires.
