Now that they have the support of Mercedes-AMG and their technical know-how, Aston Martin is planning the “biggest product offensive” in its history, launching five new models until 2020. It will all begin with an all-new Aston Martin DB9 that goes on sale in 2017.
Just as the first-gen DB9 heralded a new era for the company when it was first introduced boasting high-tech features for the time, the new model will overhaul Aston’s design philosophy and technology. It will get the next-generation VH architecture, reworked and redesigned to accommodate AMG engines, and also to suit the company’s small-scale production approach.
This allows Aston to lower the cost of production by sharing most of the components like the floor, center tunnel and windscreen tunnel across various models. The new platform will more flexible, coming in various tracks and wheelbases, suitable for making anything from coupes to cabrios, and sedan and SUVs.
And there is indeed a SUV in Aston’s future, but it is going to take a long time to arrive. The new offensive as mentioned will begin with the Aston Martin DB9 in 2017. A year later a new Vantage model will be introduced, followed by a new Vanquish in 2019. 2020 will see the launch of an all-new Rapide four-door. Only after that the Lagonda will be green-lighted for production.
