For all its glamour and beauty, the Goodwood Festival of Speed does not run without a few hiccups. Each year the moving motor show and the hill climb cause a bit of inconvenience for a few of the participants. This year two of the most prominent victims were a Nissan Nismo GT-R and an Alfa Romeo 4C.
The Nismo crash at Goodwood FoS was a spectacular one, not the least because the driver responsible for it was Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy. He proved he is better on two wheels when he went round a bend on the Goodwood hill too fast and understeered into the safety fence. The car was ruined, but fortunately Sir Chris was not harmed.

The next notable crash at Goodwood FoS this year involved a brand-new Alfa Romeo 4C, a lovely white example, that was supposed to put on a dynamic show and wow the UK public with its sports car agility. Again a driver error sent the car off the track and into a pile of hay.

Alfa’s crash doesn’t seem as severe as the Nismo’s, but still, the embarrassment in both case must have been huge.
