In an unusual move for a big car maker Bugatti is letting Autocar to freely speculate on the looks and specs of the Veyron heir, the successor to the current fastest production car in the world. Yesterday they revealed that the car will have close to 1,500 horsepower and that it’ll do 286 mph. Now they’ve released a rendering of what it may look like, plus a lot more details on its specifications.
Bugatti’s decision may have something to do with the fact that Hennessey tapped TopGear to announce their new Hennessey Venom F5 hyper car. In any case, the Bugatti Veyron successor they have envisioned looks remarkably similar to the existing model, but it’s smaller and more chiseled.
The biggest highlight of Bugatti Veyron heir will be its hybrid powertrain consisting of a revised version of the quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 and a couple of electric motors. The output of the system will be close to 1,500 horsepower, which results, in computer simulations, in a top speed of 286mph and a 0-62mph time of 2.3sec. They say that tops speed may prove impossible to test in the real world.
Other technical highlights of the Bugatti Veyron successor will include a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and multi-plate-clutch four-wheel drive system, plus a carbonfibre monocoque and a highly luxurious cabin.
