To make sure the announcement has the strongest impact, John Hennessey asked Top Gear to do the honors and introduce his new creation to the public. It is still a rendering, but Hennessey Venom F5 will come out in two years putting up a fight against Bugatti Veyron SS and its top speed record.

Hennessey Venom has already beaten the Veyron’s record, just not officially. Earlier this year a Venom GT hit 270 mph which is about a mile an hour faster than what the SS can manage. But Guinness refused to recognize the record as it was done in one direction only.

With the Hennessey Venom F5, though, the Texan tuner is saying enough is enough. The car is not going to take any argument since it boasts a top speed of “at least” 290 mph (466 km/h). That’s what Hennessey is planning to do, but if we know John Hennessey, when he says he’ll do something he’s not talking baloney. In fact we have sneaking suspicion the project is in a more advanced stage than what they care to admit.

In order to achieve that incredible top speed, Hennessey Venom F5 will feature a 1,400+ horsepower version of the existing 7.0 twin-turbo V8 engine. The Lotus underpinning will remain unchanged too, albeit upgraded to cope with the extra oomph. The looks will be changed substantially though, and so will the technology. The Venom F5 will feature a GPS-based traction control, which can be calibrated to specific racetracks. How cool is that!

Se to be launched in 2016, Hennessey Venom F5 will have a production run of at least 30 units. Pricing is yet to be announced, but expect it will certainly be dearer than Venom GT’s $1,200,000.
