With only a few days to go until this year’s Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance, Range Rover releases the official details of their new and extremely hot Sport SVR model. This car is the first project done by the firm’s recently-established special operations unit whose products are distinguished by the SVR badge.
As you’d expect, Range Rover Sport SVR is not just physically big. All the numbers about it are equally massive: 5.0-litre supercharged; 550PS and 680Nm; 8-speed automatic transmission; top speed 162 mph (limited). The only small number is the SVR’s 0-60 time which is 4.5 seconds, which is on the par with a Porsche 911.
Range Rover Sport SVR also has a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 8 minutes 14 seconds, which again is on the par with the finest sports cars. To achieve that time it needed something more than just raw power, which is why the engineers had their work cut out with the chassis and the suspension.
For the best on-road performance, the SVR comes with 22-inch alloy wheels with performance-optimised 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres. But they do also offer a set of 21-inch wheels which gives the car better all-terrain capabilities.
Last but not least, Range Rover Sport SVR features a sport body kit with larger air intakes and better aerodynamic properties than the standard Sport. The new bumpers not only look cool, they are essential to keep that massive engine nice and cool.
