The guys from Autocar magazine have some new insider info on the upcoming BMW M2 sports coupe and based on that they have come up with these amazing renderings to show us what it will look like when it’s revealed early next year.

The 2016 BMW M2 will reportedly boast a beefed-up version of the 3.0 liter six-cylinder turbo engine in the M235i, tuned to make 400 brake horsepower. But 70 or so more horsepower may not be enough of a reason for people to spend more and get the M2 instead of the M235i. And while the M2 will get trickier chassis and suspension and differential, it is not like the M235i is based on a horse cart!

That is why BMW is putting a lot of effort into making the M2 visually appealing. If the finished product look anything like what we see here, the M235i is going to be in a lot trouble. A 400bhp BMW M2 may also seem awfully close to the 430bhp BMW M4, and that’s where things get a bit tricky to be honest. The M2 will have a price tag of around £45,000, way cheaper than the M4. And unless you need the extra space the M4 offers, the M2 seems like the more logical choice. It’s lighter and nimbler and just as fast in the real world.

BMW M2 will be available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch. It’ll do 0 to 60 in just over 4 seconds and will be able to pull huge drifts with ease – at least in rear-wheel-drive version. There will also be an xDrive variant later on.
