Audi Q7 must be, to all intents and purposes, the most popular and successful unlikeable car in the world! Petrolheads and people who are into cars are put off by its bulky look, heavy weight, and the fact the it’s built mainly for the school run. But there is a new version coming, and it potentially could change things for the better.
Independent designer X-Tomi has had a go at the 2016 Audi Q7 using whatever little information is available about the next generation of the car. The result is an impressive car with features borrowed from various other new Audis.
The looks of the new Q7 may not be exactly like what you see here, but X-Tomi’s speculation about a drastic weight loss is spot on. The current Q7, which is a decade-old design, is a heavy old beast. And as we know, weight ruins performance, economy, handling, everything really. So the new Audi Q7 will be lighter and more agile, and it will benefit from a range of fuel-efficient engines, including quite possibly a hybrid powertrain.
If you are hoping for a more off-road ready car though, chances are you are going to be disappointed. The Quattro is a brilliant all-wheel-drive system, but its functions in the Q7 is usually limited by the sheer size of the thing and the suspension which is setup for utmost comfort and plushness.
