At this year’s Geneva Motor Show Volkswagen will be adding yet another new variant to the Golf family. This one is the result of mating a high-performance GTD model with a practical Estate. Their offspring is called Volkswagen Golf GTD Estate and it’s a multi-talented kid.

So let’s count the virtues of Volkswagen Golf GTD Estate and see what makes it tick. The car features a 2.0 liter 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque TDI engine that takes it to 62 mph in just 7.9 seconds. This unit also delivers a combined fuel consumption figure of 64.2 mpg. So it’s powerful and economical.

As for the looks, the Volkswagen Golf GTD Estate boasts sports bumpers, smoked rear lights and flared sills, 17-inch Curitiba alloys, black roof rails and dual chrome tailpipes, plus 15mm lower ride height compared to the standard Estate. You get all this, plus the practicality of that huge boot at the back which would normally deliver a fatal blow to the car’s cool factor.

The same applies to the interior, where huge space meets sporty features such as sports seats in Clark tartan, illuminated door sills, black headliner and black pillar trims, decorative inserts and panels in Checkered Black, plus stainless steel pedal caps. You can even specify this model with Sports and Design package.

Volkswagen Golf GTD Estate will hit the European and British markets in April.
