Mercedes G500 4×4x2 600x385 at First Look: Mercedes G500 4×4²

The big foot Mercedes G-Class that spied a few months ago has now become official, and it’s called the Mercedes G500 4×4². As the name suggests, it is double the car the normal G-Wagen is, and that probably means it is twice as capable, and certainly twice as expensive!

The immense success of the G63 AMG 6×6 made Mercedes-Benz top brass realize they should have expanded the G-Wagen lineup years ago. Clearly, there’s lots of money to be made from this car and the G500 4×4² definitely looks like it can make some serious cash for the company.

Mercedes G500 4×4² has pretty much the same ground clearance as the 6×6, but rides on normal wheels, albeit huge ones measuring 22-inch in diameter shod with 325/55 off-road tires. The car has the looks of the G63, what with the unique bumper and grille and everything, but it is a G500 powered by a non-AMG V8.

It is not the normal V8 you get in the regular G500 though. The engine in the Mercedes G500 4×4² is the same turbo unit you find in models like the SL500 with 420 horsepower. That is pretty much all we now about this beast for now, but we shall soon find out more as the car is scheduled to be launched at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3rd.
