Among the independent designers who often grace us with their talent by manipulating images of the world’s hottest cars and turning them into more amazing things, Jon Sibal has by far the most active imagination. After virtually tuning the AMGT GT and Acura NSX, this time he’s come up with the BMW i8 GT3, a racing version of the hybrid sports car.

Sibal’s BMW i8 GT3 might seem a bit outlandish now, but in the near future where all cars will be built like the i8 with frugal hybrid and electric powertrains, the world of motorsport will invariably be affected and we will be seeing ultra-green hybrids slugging it out on the race track.

But besides offering a glimpse into the future of racing, this BMW i8 GT3 also gives tuners some good ideas about how to craft body kits for the German hybrid. The revised bumper of the i8 GT3 features aero winglets and large splitter, complementing the effect of those massive side skirts, the vented bonnet, and the giant rear spoiler. One would imagine the car also has a pretty enormous rear diffuser.

There are a lot to like about the BMW i8 GT3, but we particularly like what Jon has done with the fenders. Buffed-up wheel arches are of course a feature of the standard i8, but here they are beautifully exaggerated and make the whole thing look more muscular.
