The last trailer Universal released for Fast and Furious 7 revealed the movie’s most awesome scene in which the crew HALO out of a C130 cargo plane at 12,000 feet. Turns out it wasn’t CGI, as everybody who saw the trailer thought. Well, at least not entirely CGI.
The part with the actors pushing buttons and stuff is CGI, but the Furious 7 production team did actually drop the cars out of an airplane to make the scene look more realistic. Here’s how they went about doing this seemingly impossible task:
The cars were dropped out of the ramp into the open air with parachutes attached to their roof, two aerial cameramen following them in the jump, and a helicopter filming the whole thing from above. It was an amazing feat, and judging by the finished product, which we saw in the trailer, they absolutely nailed it. Looks like they have pulled out all the stops to make sure Furious 7 kicks ass. This film, after all, is a tribute to Paul Walker who died in a car accident over a year ago. He was played in F7 by body doubles and computer graphics.
