If you follow Jay Leno’s Garage and its awesome videos, you have probably wondered why doesn’t Jay have more Ferraris and Mercedes-Benz models? The answer is he doesn’t really like Ferraris, and as for Mercedes, he only two of them special enough to deserve a place in his garage. One is the McLaren Mercedes SLR, and the other is this, the 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing.

Of course, any Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing is super special in its own right. But Jay’s Gullwing is a bit more special owing to the fact that it was a racing car back in its day, and that he found it in a trailer in the desert!

So as you heard this Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing is undergoing a thorough restoration and with phase one now complete, Jay can drive it around. Next they are going to address the rather tatty exterior with a new lick of paint, but that would be it, as cars like this must be preserved in original condition. No unnecessary modification!
