At the 2015 New York Auto Show Subaru took the wraps off the third generation of their rallycross fighter based on the latest WRX STI model. After a year of secret development, the new Subaru WRX STI Rallycross is now ready, and it’s packing a big punch.

The popularity of rallycross is growing all over the world and more and more car makers are looking at it as a more fun, and less complicated, alternative to the World Rally Championship. Subaru WRX STI Rallycross will be competing in both Red Bull Global Rallycross and X Games Rallycross, where it will face rivals from a wide variety of car makers – from Volkswagen to Peugeot.

Codenamed VT15x, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Rallycross is powered by a 580 horsepower 2.0L Subaru Boxer engine, mated to a 6-speed SADEV sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive. As per rallycross norm, the car features a wide body aero kit and METHOD competition-spec wheels. Thanks to some seriously hard-core engineering, the VT15x can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just two seconds!

“We made huge strides in durability and competitiveness last season,” stated Vermont SportsCar Team Principal Lance Smith. “The VT15x is almost entirely-new technology. This car is a revolution, not just an evolution.”
