So after its debut over the weekend at the 2015 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the confusing BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage returns in a video that includes some driving, a bit of exhaust noise, and some proper walkaround footage to give you a better look at the car. Some say the Hommage looks less horrid in video, but we’re not so sure.
The problem with BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is, of course, that unfathomable front-end. It’s a very handsome thing when you look at it from behind. But that weird face kind of ruins the whole thing. We’re struggling to see what that face has to do with the original CSL. This, after all, is an homage to that car.
It has become BMW’s habit in recent years to boil the blood of their fans with rubbish designs for a while before they release something really good-looking and make up for it. You may argue that they are being bold and taking risk to introduce something new and that’s admirable. And it is. But there is a fine line between being bold and being stupid. In the case of BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage that line is awfully blurred.
