Mille Miglia is, in our opinion, the most magnificent motoring event of the year in Europe, even though each year it gets slower, more closely governed, and less exciting. Still, the event allows yo to drive a classic car of your choice across some of Italy’s most beautiful cities. Don’t know about you, but that’s my idea of heaven!
Mille Miglia, for those of you who don’t know, means ‘thousand miles’ which is exactly what the race is all about. The participants travel a thousand miles across Italy from Brescia to Rome and back. It used to be a proper race back in the day, but after numerous incidents it was first banned and later on turned into a timed rally on public roads.
Today the participants retrace the original route while competing against each other and time, maintaining the rules and regulations of public roads. At least that’s idea. Mille Miglia is always full of playboys and rich adventure seeker who don’t really care about rules and stuff, and end up racing each other all the way through the event.
We will be bringing you more material on the 2015 Mille Miglia, but for now check out these wonderful pictures from the historic Mercedes-Benz models participating in this year’s event. Among them there is the very Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR driven to victory by Sir Stirling Moss in 1955.
