High-Performance Variant of Mercedes AMG GT Caught Testing

AMG GT prototype 600x339 at High Performance Variant of Mercedes AMG GT Caught Testing

The standard version of the Mercedes AMG GT has barely been out but already the company has released a racing GT3 version and is also working, by the looks of things, on a road-going version of that car. This is it, caught the other day doing some loud testing at the Nurburgring.

This car could be the long-rumored Black Series AMG GT – a souped up version with a massive aero kit, semi-stripped-out interior, and a heavily tricked-out engine. Mind you, the car we see here under camo does not seem really wide enough to be a Black Series.

That is why some people believe this prototype is in fact the road-going Mercedes AMG GT3. It may well be that, but we can already tell you it won’t be called the GT3. Porsche won’t allow it. As we reported a while back Porsche went after Aston Martin when they called their new hard-core Vantage GT3. A simple threat of suing by Porsche was enough for Aston for give in and change that car’s name to GT12.

Whatever this rather awesome creature is called, judging by the aero parts it is sporting and the way it tackles the fearsome Nurburgring, it is going to be one helluva performance machine. We reckon it’ll boast something like 620 horsepower, and around 100 kg less weight than the standard AMG GT.
