Understanding the 911 range has always been difficult, and it doubly so in the case of the current 991 generation. You have the 991 Carrera, the Turbo, GT3, and GT3 RS. Now comes the Porsche 991 GT3 R which slots between the GT3 and the RS but is in fact a race car.
The new Porsche 991 GT3 R is a racing version of the road-going 991 GT3 RS powered by the same 500 PS flat-six engine. This has enabled the engineers to massively improve the new car over the previous iterations of the 911 GT3 race car. The new R benefits from lightweight design, better aerodynamic efficiency, reduced consumption, improved handling, optimised safety and lowered service and spare parts costs. This car is a private racer’s wet dream!
Porsche 991 GT3 R is also an absolute delight to looks at, what with that distinctive double-bubble roof, 8.3 centimetres longer wheelbase, wide hips, and a sizable aero kit. Despite looking pretty bulky, the GT3 R is a feather weight featuring aluminium-steel composite construction, carbon fiber roof, front cover and fairing, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections as well as the rear cover, and polycarbonate windows.
Priced from 429,000 Euro, Porsche 991 GT3 R also benefits from a 120 liters endurance fuel tank with improved safety and large six-piston, 380mm disc braking system with racing ABS. There is also an escape hatch in the roof and new racing bucket seats.
