Julian Thomson, the head of Jaguar’s Advanced Design team, is working on a project based on a car from his former employer, Lotus. He was the man who penned the Series 1 Elise back in the 90s, and he is now sort of picking up where he left off with this awesome Lotus Super Elise, reportedly destined for limited-run production.

If Thomson’s Lotus Super Elise looks a bit like the Jaguar C-X75 Concept in profile, that’s because he designed that one, too. But everything else is bespoke to the Super Elise and harks back to the original. The familiar looking headlights, those scoops in the bonnet, and those distinctive taillights, these are the features that take us for stroll down the memory lane and make us eager to see this thing in the flesh.

In designing the Lotus Super Elise Thomson has also drawn inspiration from Singer 911. It looks like the original, but it has a completely bespoke body that is 30mm lower than the normal Elise and a full 100mm wider. The powertrain proposed for the Super Elise is a VTEC Honda unit that would power the rear wheels via a sequential gearbox. Thomson hopes to build up to 20 units of this car, but he hasn’t disclosed the pricing yet.
