In this week’s second tragic super car accident a highly valuable 1959 Aston Martin DBR1 was wrecked after crashing into some other highly valuable classics during a historic race event at Castle Combe track. Once owned by Sir Stirling Moss, this DBR1 was recently auctioned off for £20 million GBP or roughly $30 million USD.
The ‘Supercars of the 1950s’ historic race was part of the Autumn Classic event at Castle Combe, one of the few events were vintage racing cars can be brought out of solitary confinement and raced again cars of their own era. The thing is, when several hundred million pounds worth of vintage race cars are let loose on the race track, incidents like this are inevitable.
The 1959 Aston Martin DBR1 crashed into a Jaguar XK120 and an Austin Healey 100. The owner Adrian Beecroft, who is described in the media as a venture capitalist, has surely insured the car for a good amount, and he has the full services of Aston Martin Works at his disposal who is more capable of bringing this car back to its former glory. To this isn’t that tragic after all.
